Prior to M&E recruitment, Michael cut his teeth resourcing recruitment consultants – which he describes as an eye-opening experience! This opportunity allowed Michael to see both the good and bad qualities in recruitment consultants – and, ultimately, led him to turn his back on the stereotypical view and take the right approach to recruitment.

A proud, life-long, Manchester United fan, Michael is looking forward to seeing them return to the top of the league! He spends most of his spare time having fun with his family and he’s happy his son is slowly coming round to the idea of being a Red Devils supporter.

Job Description

 

Due to our clients continued and successful growth, we are looking to source a Health and Safety Assistant to work closely with memebers of the Health and Safety Department. Training and Development will be given and this is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to get into the Health and Safety environment.

About This Role

 

Job title: Health and Safety Assistant

Duties & Responsibilities: As the Health and Safety Assistant your duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Providing administration assistance in the development of the Health and Safety strategy within the business and helping with the review of all current internal policies and updating where required.
  • Assistance in providing monthly health and safety statistics looking for any current trends and reporting on these, providing input into monthly reports, looking to continuously improve process or procedures where necessary.
  • Participate in the creation and deliver of an in-house safety training programmes to all staff.
  • Participating in the delivery of a health and safety toolbox talks to site teams, updating them on recent updates/statistics etc.
  • Monitoring compliance with site health & safety documentation and offering support to the site health & safety advisor on audits and site walks.
  • Have input into the company focus groups to look at areas for development/best practice.
  • Support the company’s Health & Wellbeing program.
  • Assistance in ISO certifications and standards are maintained across the entire operation, including (BS EN ISO 14001: 2004 – Environment and BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 – Health & Safety).
  • Assisting the Health & Safety Advisor in ensuring the company remains in full compliance with  current and future OHS legislation.
  • Participate in implementing Safety initiatives to ensure the company differentiates themselves from their competitors.
  • Show leadership at all times when undertaking your duties to drive Behavioural change on site.
  • Foster and encourage engagement with all parties.
  • Providing administrative support during accident / incident investigations ensuring maximum learning is taken and shared with sites and personnel and where appropriate assist in revised safe systems of work.
  • Have a ‘don’t walk by’ attitude to breaches of health and safety.
  • Ensure all procedures are followed and where not provide advice on compliance.
  • Oversee and help with the implementation of site-specific safety documentation, ensuring risks and hazards are effectively communicated to all relevant parties.
  • Monitoring Method Statements and Risk Assessments on all projects, when required, in conjunction with the Construction Team. Similarly, Method Statements, Risk Assessments and SWP’s must accompany works carried out at Office and other regional offices/sites.
  • Participate in the audit processes and procedures, ensuring the business complies with all relevant statutory and best practice.
  • Advice on training requirements for all site and office-based staff

 

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Desired NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • IT Literate including working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Desirable experience in multi-site organisation
