Job description

 

 

Overview
 
To project plan all potential/new business initiatives from the tender stage through to project completion.  This will be effected by producing and monitoring logic linked programmes covering all stages of the project from tender through to design, procurement, construction, commissioning and successful project completion. 
 
 
Details
 
  • Manage and develop the Planning team to successfully achieve company, team and individual goals and objectives relating to the areas of project planning and progress/productivity measurement. 
 
  • Deputise in the absence of the Planning Manager.
 
  • Input into the Branch/Department's business plan, and produce accurate monthly plans that fit with the overall business strategy. 
 
  • In liaison with the Planning Manager, assess the risk analysis of projects using a good understanding of the construction process (including design areas) and the development of excellent external customer relationships.  
 
  • Ensure that logic linked planning programmes are successfully developed, monitored and reported on throughout all stages of the project planning cycle.
 
  • In conjunction with the Planning Manager, liaise with the Business Development Manager/Bid Manager to assess any internal tender process programme requirements, and ensure that these are effectively prepared and monitored throughout the tendering process. 
 
  • Work closely with appropriate personnel (including Branch/Commercial/Planning Managers) at the pre-commencement stage of a contract, attending pre-commencement meetings as required, and arrange for the preparation of a master programme that will achieve the best possible business outcomes.
 
  • Liaise with Contracts/Site Managers to successfully plan the sequence of work, key dates and labour resourcing of projects, and effectively support and liaise with the project management team throughout all stages of the project from tender to completion.
 
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that progress and productivity is effectively monitored against project plan, and that clear and appropriate reports are produced for appropriate personnel in a concise and timely manner.
 
  • As required, agree the plan and monitor the procurement of major items of materials, plant and equipment that may impact on the construction programme. 
 
  • Ensure that planning contract reviews are conducted at 25%, 50% and 75% of the programmed period in order to ascertain whether targets are being achieved and to establish/agree any corrective measures to be taken if necessary.
 
  • Attend progress meetings as required, both internal and external, to review and report on the progress being made on the project.
 
  • Ensure that the testing and commissioning of projects is conducted successfully by the professional outlining/definition of logical sequences which successfully co-ordinate all specialists to achieve overall commissioning programmes.  
 
  • Maintain highest levels of commercial confidentiality in all aspects of employment.
 
 
Essential criteria:
 
Preferably educated to degree level (or equivalent) standard.  Previous management experience would be useful, as would working within a building services environment.  Must be analytical, must possess excellent communication and negotiation skills, and have a flexible approach.
 
Experience on Premavera 6 and Asta Power Projects is desirable.
