Job description

To work unsupervised on Estimates from initial Tender stage through to adjudication. Assists the Estimating Manager and junior Estimating team at all stages of the estimate.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Financial / Commercial:
• Ensure that the build up to the Tender submission and all supporting documents are maintained in a logical and sequential manner
• Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the Tendering process specific to particular schemes during Tender settlement meetings
• Responsible for researching and preparing coherent and cost effective bids / tenders
• Able to negotiate the optimum Tender price from suppliers, wholesalers and subcontractors
• Demonstrate an innovative approach to arriving at prime cost
• Manage the enquiry process with the supply chain and appraise quotations for both technical and commercial viability
• Participate in handover of successful bids to delivery team
• Ensure delivery team understand the technical, financial and key programme issues and the key business drivers and expectations of the client
• Able to determine the necessity of site visits to understand build ability and risk
• Demonstrate an ability for innovation that differentiates our clients tender from competition

People:
• Review and appraise employee performance where applicable

• Liase with project delivery teams and procurement to assess supply chain

TECHNICAL SKILLS / KMOWLEDGE
• Able to query Tender documents and gain clarity by the most appropriate method including using Request for Further information and Technical Queries
• Undertake technical / commercial appraisals of supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Demonstrable ability to analyse drawings, specifications, proposals and other documentations to prepare time, product, cost and labour estimates using specialised methodologies
• Qualified to HNC / ONC in an Engineering discipline with appropriate experience in a similar role
• Have some understanding of programming and build ability
• IT competent in spreadsheets and using bespoke estimating software
• Knowledge of Design and Build Estimating
• Able to formulate crew mix and labour rate
• Able to measure drawings and take off quantities
• Varied experience of all types of installation
• Knowledge of standard specifications, British Standards and Good Practice
